I’m bringing this back again from around a year ago. Some of you have heard it, many have not.
The term “scat singing” refers to vocal improvisation that uses made up syllables to express the rhythmic drive of what is being invented on the spot.
What Ella does with this tune is “vocal bebop”. There has never been a greater vocalist in jazz. And she references Ornithology, a jazz standard by Charlie Parker that improvises on the chords to “How High the Moon.”
I don’t know one top musician who is not blown away by her talent. Pure genius.
