Philharmonic Youth Winds…

Here is another another talented youth group playing the Triumphal March from Aida.

Aida, famous for 147 years…

Aida is an in four act opera by Giuseppe Verdi, born in 1813. Verdi lived until 1901, so he died at the age of 87. That was a very long life for people living at that time. He wrote Aida in 1871, so he was 58 years old at the time. To put that into perspective, Beethoven was only 56 when he died, and Mozart was only 35. Chopin was 39, Gershwin was also 39, and Shubert barely lived past age 30. In the time of Verdi.

Verdi was another prodigy…

As was true of so many other famous composers from that era, Verdi was hardly a normal kid.  He was the paid organist at his church at age eight, and he got tutored from the age of four not only in Italian but also in Latin. So he was not only very intelligent and very talented but also received the very best help imaginable from a very early age. He started composing at around age 13.
