Thumbs together scales…

These are the easiest scales, and there are four of them. Three of them use all the black notes on the piano and are all but impossible to finger wrong:

  1. B major uses B and E.
  2. Db major uses C and F.
  3. F# or Gb major uses B and F. In notation either B is written as Cb, or F is written as E#.

F major uses white keys plus Bb. The main thing to remember for these four scales is that the thumbs always play at the same time.
